Matt Hammitt is best known to Christian rock fans as the leader singer of Sanctus Real. When Hammitt chose to step away from the band in 2015, it was an exercise in blind trust—a tough decision he chronicles in “Heaven Knows”, a song about taking a leap of faith and following God’s calling. It’s also the leadoff track for his self-titled solo album, which mostly shies away from rock in favour of sleek, adult contemporary pop. The songs convey confidence in the Lord even through seasons of uncertainty—like on “He Always Wins”, which boasts of God’s sovereignty.
