Much in the way of their superstar labelmates Migos, Miami-native duo City Girls have been forced to start a man down. Just as Migos were absent Offset upon release of the Drake-assisted “Versace” remix, <i>Girl Code</i>—which follows their life-changing inclusion on Drake’s “In My Feelings”—comes as City Girls' JT serves out a jail sentence related to fraudulent credit card charges, leaving Yung Miami to hold down the fort. The album is still a team effort (<i>Girl Code</i> was completed before JT’s sentence began) and a seamless continuation of the themes of its predecessor, <i>Period</i>. The duo continues to hit licks, dodge broke suitors, and enjoy sex unapologetically. Boasting sharp bars and even sharper wit, City Girls clearly realize the urgency of their moment.
