Lil Peep had announced the title of his <i>GOTH ANGEL SINNER</i> EP in October 2017, just weeks before his accidental fatal overdose, claiming it was “coming soon”. Two years later, the short, bittersweet trio of tracks feels like a glimpse into the rapper’s psyche in his final days: starkly honest grunge-rap dirges for feeling everything and nothing at the same time. On “Belgium”, Nirvana-inspired riffs weave between trap drums for a bleak but tender ode to tainted love; “When I Lie”, a strangely beautiful bit of nu-metal revivalism, drops simple but heart-wrenching lines like “I’m not evil by design, but I feel dead at times.” It’s not a happy listen, but it’s a snapshot of a talent gone far too soon.
