Inspired by fairy tales from her childhood, pianist Marina Baranova embarks on an enchanted journey that gives free rein to an incredible musical imagination. Each track not only evokes beautiful imagery, but also showcases her mastery of so many contrasting styles and colours, embellished by an incredible piano technique. The delicate “The Rainbow Bridge” shines brightly on this album of gems, a modern twist on the world of the French Baroque, while the Mendelssohn-inspired “The Canopy of Heaven” is infused with subtle jazz influences and breathtaking harmonic twists and turns. The Morricone-esque “Enchanted Hills” possesses a Lisztian poetry; “The Rain Spirits’ Realm” is a skittish, minimalist delight. The melodically inspired “Islands Adrift”, packed with enticing detail, combines the worlds of soundtracks, symphonic music and post-classical simplicity in just two minutes.
