While <i>Gbagada Express</i> bears the sound that helped launch BOJ to stardom—the airy, drowsy vocals that underpin his hypnotic hooks, the spate of features and the variegated beats—the second installment, <i>Moving Mad</i>, shifts into a more intimate mood, and the texture is more condensed, with contributed verses now tailored to fit BOJ’s cohesive soundscape. The affair kicks off with the mellow “Foreigner”, a note-to-self about a change in status. It’s here we understand the sonic direction of the project, with BOJ trading out most of the brassy aspects of <i>Gbagada Express</i> for a more raw, smoother, and simpler sonic palette. Melissa’s eclectic flow is the special sauce on the TSB-produced “Brand New”, while “No Option” finds ODUMODUBLVCK unfurling his cocksure confidence, and on “Line of Fire”, Ayra Starr assists with a bevy of delightful promises.
