Dive back into Jim Sharp’s series that brings sampled songs together with the tracks that sampled them. “<i>Straighten It Out, Vol. 2</i> is one of the original mixes that I created combining samples with the sampled in 2012,” the Toronto-born, London-based DJ tells Apple Music about a mix that unites hip-hop gold such as JVC Force’s “Strong Island” and LL COOL J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” with their source material (Freda Payne’s “Unhooked Generation” and Sly & The Family Stone’s “Trip to Your Heart”, in those two cases). “On this mix, I focused a bit more on bringing the hip-hop vocals into play with the funk and soul samples, alongside ample doses of cutting and scratching. Each track has been individually remastered without altering the original mixes or transitions. This one’s for the hip-hop breaks and beats fans out there.”
