For London DJ/producer Peshay, 1998 was a landmark year. “It was when things really exploded for me internationally—’96/’97 kicked it off, but in 1998, it was a whole new level,” he tells Apple Music, introducing the seventh volume of his D’n’B anthology. “I was travelling all over the globe with loads of DJ gigs and, at one point, I didn’t hit home again for about four months. I was then home for two weeks and then away for another three months straight again. So much travel!” It was all in the service of helping drum ’n’ bass go global. “Producers were turning out track after track and there was so much choice when it came to what tracks to play,” he says. “D’n’B used to be quite niche, but finding your key mixes from the tracks available was now, I guess you could say, a premier-league headache with all the new producers coming through. It was such an amazing time to be alive, and to be an integral part of it all was a very proud moment for me. At this point, the drum ’n’ bass scene was in very safe hands with everyone contributing to the growth of the music and the scene itself.
