Eartheater’s avant-pop has often revolved around ideas of transformation—a butterfly hatching from a chrysalis, a diamond hardening through pressure, a phoenix being reborn through flames. But on her sixth album, the lavishly titled <i>Heavenly Body: If I’m the Bottle You’re the Message</i>, Alexandra Drewchin explores a new kind of metamorphosis: In 2025, the musician gave birth to her first child. Three months later, she started recording <i>Heavenly Body</i>, co-producing all but one track with TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek. (The exception is the closing track, <b>“Nova,”</b> which Drewchin produced alongside Nosaj Thing and <i>Donnie Darko</i> score producer Michael Andrews.) The resulting songs are awestruck, newly tender and characteristically rapturous, recounting the experience of pregnancy and motherhood through alternately gritty and fantastical scenes: On <b>“Glowing Guts”,</b> she’s peeing in cups and adding Chief Keef to her birth playlist, while on <b>“Crown Jewel”,</b> billions of years of evolutionary history speed past in a time-lapse that ends with her daughter’s face.
