The veteran singer/songwriter hits a wide range of emotions with her mix of poignant and punchy chamber pop. "Don't let perfect make you blind to this beautiful world,” Phillips croons over the title track's vintage-pop swing, a sweet contrast to the string-laden minor-key lament "Always Merry and Bright". On "Trouble", she broods in layers of her own dreamy vocals, before finding lightness in the bluesy shuffle of "Lever Pulled Down" and wisdom in a twangy reworking of "Tell Her What She Wants to Know".
