Hailing from Connecticut, Apathy got his start in the late-‘90s indie-rap explosion, appearing on numerous 12-inches and compilations with his brethren in the Demigodz collective. He was on the Jedi Mind Tricks debut album, is a member of both Army of the Pharoahs and Get Busy Committee, and has recorded extensively with Celph Titled and 7L & Esoteric, among others. After a short stint on Atlantic Records (he was granted a release after creative differences), he's been steadily dropping EPs and mixtapes ever since. <i>Honkey Kong</i> is his third proper solo album (following <i>Eastern Philosophy</i> and <i>Wanna Snuggle?</i>, and it finds him sticking to his standard M.O. of multilayered, densely worded, punchline-infused wordplay set to nose-breaking snares and freaky chopped samples. A quality mix of griminess, comedy, social commentary, and straight B-boy funk, this is arguably his best work to date. Check out "It's Only Hip Hop," "Check to Check," "Army of the Godz," and the <i>Breakfast Club</i>-channeling "East Coast Rapist."
