Their first album out of high school, <i>Nothing Personal</i> continues to punch with the power of dire adolescent emotions on topics about girls, senioritis, summer parties and crowning thy good with brotherhood. Like their previous works, <i>Nothing Personal</i> is loaded with diamond-barbed hooks, though a cherry-picked team of producers helped hone them. S*A*M & Sluggo, Matt Squire, and David Bendeth share production duties on the opening insta-hit “Weightless,” a contagiously catchy song with well thought-out lyrics, flawless musicianship, and an air-tight mix. “Break Your Little Heart” comes out of the gates sounding more aggressive as both guitars take the driver’s seat. The hormonally fueled “Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don’t) was mixed by studio wizard Butch Walker, which may account for why it’s the most infectious tune here with it’s descending “Oh-oh-oh” lure in the chorus. Conversely, summery ballad “Too Much” (produced by The-Dream) rolls smooth and slow with a delightfully overused auto-tuner.
